What is the DAU/MAU?
How companies define “active users” can vary, so the first step to calculating your DAU/MAUratio is establishing a firm definition of an active user. To do this, think about the most important actions in the app and consider what you want to measure.
The DAU/MAUratio is a user engagement metric that measures the approximate number of days per month that users take a specific action. Expressed as a percentage, the DAU/MAUratio represents the proportion of a company’s monthly active users (MAUs) who interact with a website, app, or platform daily.
Do You Know What is a good DAU/MAU ratio?
A good DAU/MAUratio can vary depending on the app’s purpose, brand association, audience, and engagement style. For example, social apps may have higher DAU/MAUstandards because users typically use these kinds of products every day to connect with friends, post content, and follow social trends.
In contrast, B2B applications may have longer-term purposes and users may use them less often or only on weekdays. Additionally, users can only use apps like travel accommodation programs for a few days a year when they are on vacation.
DAU and MAU may be more useful for some applications than others. Though, in most conditions, a higher DAU/MAUscore is improved. This means that more users work with the application every day. A 100% score is perfect and means users are active in the app every day of the month.
Find Daily Active Users (DAUs)
Daily active users signify the number of unique users who open your application in a day. To find this value, you can choose one 24-hour period and measure how many unique users were active during that period.
You can also calculate the average number of users who visit the app per day. To do this, add up the number of unique users each day for the month. Then divide this value by the number of days in the month. Here is the formula: Average DAU = sum of unique users for each day/number of days in the month.
For example, you might want to find your average daily active users for September. First, add up the number of unique users from each day. You can get 153 users. Then divide this value by 30 days.
Find Monthly Active Users (MAUs)
Your monthly active users represent the number of unique users who open your app in a month or approximately 30 days. To find out this value, you can choose one month and measure how many unique users were active during that period.
Alternatively, like DAU, you can calculate the average number of users who visit your app per month. To do this, add up the number of unique users each month for the year. Then divide that value by the number of months in the year, 12. Here’s the formula: Average MAU = sum of unique users for each month / 12.
